ARTIST & ARTWORK

Pammy Foster

Pammy Foster is a Waramungu and Alyawarr woman born in Tennant Creek and raised between Ampilatwatja and Wutunugurra (Epenarra). She began painting from an early age, learning from her aunt Susie Peterson and her grandmother Jessie Peterson, both well-known artists from Wutunugurra. Pammy paints intricate pieces depicting the bush plants and landscapes of the Wutunugurra region. She is a devoted artist who will finesse a canvas until she is completely satisfied with her work, resulting in highly detailed and layered pieces

Domica Hill

Pakana woman Domica Hill is a contemporary Aboriginal artist infusing traditional elements with modern colour palettes and patterns. She has a passion for native flora and Fauna inspired by the loss of her daughter Briar Primrose as well as bringing connection to her ancestors.

Her creations often captivate a blend of contemporary and vibrant work while still paying homage to tradition with symbolism. Each artwork serves as a testament to the enduring spirit of her people and their inseparable connection to the land they inhabit.

Gladys Lewis

Is an emerging artist from Wutunugurra, she is the niece and granddaughter of leading artists Susie Peterson and Jessie Peterson respectively, both of whom have been crucial to the development of Wutunugurra's Art Centre and the distinct style for which the community is known. Wutunugurra is nestled in the foothills of Iytwelepenty (the Davenport Ranges), its landscape is the linchpin of Gladys' work. In Gladys' playful paintings, the tiny wild flowers which blanket Iytwelepenty are magnified, dancing rhythmically across the canvas, haloed with bright line work which trace the loosely rendered shape of bush flowers in bold colour. Gladys' work is a celebration of the simple beauty of Iytwelepenty, its wild flowers and their potent medicinal forces, of which she is very knowledgeable, often referring to the specific uses of flowers depicted in her work.

Dreamtime Blooms is where art seamlessly blends with nature and culture. Painted by Aboriginal female artists, including Domica Hill, Pammy Foster and Gladys Lewis, each artwork lovingly portrays cherished flowers from their homeland within Australia. This collection is an ode to tradition and nature's splendor, beautifully capturing their heartfelt stories about their country's significance.

Wild Flower Design Story - Pammy Foster

"When you go out bush you see all different flowers. You can pick them and smell them - some of them smell very nice."

Banksia Design Story - Domica Hill

This Banksia represents the symbol of rebirth and new beginnings. The Banksia flower reaches out to embrace the warmth of the sunlight.

Medicine Flowers - Gladys Lewis

Bush Flowers around the bush. We see them all the time
